Curious what 99 wonderful women and one ‘fantastic fella’ can do? Then by all means, read on!

A ‘grand’ total of $1,000 was recently donated to Comox Valley Transition Society’s Lilli House, all from Uplifters Shop selling 100 $14 bracelets with a $10 give back.

“Actually, if truth be told, we had only sold 98 bracelets,” said co-owner and shop manager Deanne McRae. “We gifted one to their executive director Heather Ney, and one took a walk.”

That’s where the fantastic fella came in. A firefighter named Sandy from Comox Fire Rescue had heard about the $980 and gave $20 cash right from his own wallet to the shop (which ultimately topped up their donation to a cool grand). Coincidentally, Comox Fire Rescue recently gave $1,000 to CVTS as well, just a few weeks prior.

“It was a tad nerve-wracking buying 100 bracelets and hoping our customers would rock this, especially in this pandemic with the slow economy affecting many shops,” said McRae.

Uplifters Shop always has different fundraisers on the go, with its newest one raising money for prostate cancer research. One hundred and twenty novelty mens/unisex socks (aliens, unicorns, dinosaurs, whales, aardvarks, and many more) from the brand Good Luck Sock have hit the shelves for $14.95 with a $5 give back.

“We really want to be able to keep doing this,” said McRae. “So customers spreading the word to their friends means everything to us! Of course, we can only fundraise if shoppers are shopping and supporting our gift shop. And really, crossing the 5th Street Bridge isn’t so bad.”

If you haven’t found this new shop yet, it’s located at 535 Cliffe Ave, between 5th and 6th street Downtown Courtenay. For more information, call the shop at 250-871-3883 or connect through social media @upliftersshop. And for more information on the Comox Valley Transition Society visit cvts.ca
