Cancer is the largest (non-accidental) killer of Canadian children, 27 of whom are diagnosed with the disease each week.

In an effort to help fight kids’ cancer, Wendy Anderson is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge, a Canada-wide initiative to raise money for cancer cures and new treatments.

“This is a huge challenge for me, and I am completing it to honour a little boy I knew over 20 years ago who died of leukemia,” said Anderson, a Cumberland resident who was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Despite battling extreme exhaustion most days, she intends on cycling a total of 300 kilometres — with or without donations. She has so far biked 45 kms.

”It makes me more aware of the pain, exhaustion, and yes, the hope as well, that sick kids must go through daily, monthly, and sometimes for years.”

Anderson’s fund-raising goal is $500.
