The sound of choir music will resonate throughout St. George’s United Church in Courtenay on May 4, as three male choirs will converge for the Men of the Salish Sea Concert.

More than 100 singers will perform as the Men of Notes (Celebration Singers) will host the Victoria Arion Men’s Choir and Chor Musica from Powell River.

The concert is at 2:30 p.m.

Chor Musica, a program at the Powell River Academy of Music, is a male-voice community choir formed in 1998 comprising 40 singers. The choir provides an opportunity for men to explore and perform a variety of music written specifically for male choirs. Since its inception, the choir has developed into a captivating ensemble that delights audiences with its performances.

Chor Musica is conducted by Walter Martella, who is the music director of the Powell River Academy of Music and the artistic director of the International Choral Kathaumixw Festival. Moira Hopfe-Ostensen will provide the accompaniment.

The Victoria Arion Male Choir (VAMC) is a community of male-voice singers with a history of more than 130 years. Its roots go back to 1893 when the Arion Club of Victoria gave its first public concert.

The VAMC also supports music education through a choral scholarship program, which allows up to four student musicians to sing with the choir each year. The VAMC sings under the musical direction of Sean Lampard-Quicke with collaborative accompanist, Jennifer Michell.

The Men of Notes is a local non-auditioned men’s ensemble which was formed six years ago. It is one of three choirs that sing under the umbrella of the Celebration Singers Community Choirs. Carol Anne Parkinson directs the choir and their collaborative accompanist is Andrew Sims.

They present an entertaining and diverse program of music from multiple genres.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear over 100 male voices raised in song.

Tickets ($20) on sale at Benjamin Moore House of Color (249 5th St., Courtenay), Eby’s Business Systems (1994 Comox Ave., Comox) and from Men of Notes choir members.
