Big band weekend wrap-up

To wrap up the Comox Valley’s inaugural Big Band Festival Weekend, a visiting big band from Calgary, The Midnight Blue Jazz Society, is teaming up with the Comox Valley’s very own Georgia Strait Big Band for an evening of top-drawer Big Band music, featuring two full 18-person big bands.

This is a “not to be missed” performance is on Saturday, April 28 starting at 7 p.m. at the ballroom in the Best Western Hotel.

The Georgia Straight Jazz Society is the major sponsor of the festival.

“Our affiliation with the Georgia Strait Big Band dates back to the creation of our jazz osciety and we are thrilled to support this music which is the epitome of the jazz era and the Great American Songbook,” said president Malcolm Holt.

Advance tickets are $15 and available at Bop City Records. Tickets at the door $17 and youth tickets (18 and under ) are $5.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is a licensed event.
