Canada’s 150th will be celebrated in a joint concert hosted by the Comox Valley Children’s Choir and featuring PK Tessmann on May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Comox Pentecostal Church.

Earlier this year, the Children’s Choir hosted Tessmann as guest faculty for a songwriter’s retreat, during which time the choir composed an original folk song including lyrics, melody, harmony, French echoes, and sign language.

The song, called Celebrate Canada, was submitted to the Sing Me a Song program hosted by the lieutenant governor of B.C.

“Working with the choir was a highlight of my year. I was so impressed with how creative, intuitive and focused the kids were with writing their own song,” said Tessmann.

Tessmann is a fixture in the Vancouver Island indie-folk community.

With more than 20 years of songwriting and performance behind her, she is celebrating the release of her new album Dear City (fall 2016).

The concert program will include all original music performed by Tessmann, and an all-Canadian composed set presented by the Comox Valley Children’s Choir’s youngest group.

The choir will perform an arrangement by local choral leader Wendy Nixon-Stothert.

Journey through choral, folk, pop, spiritual, calypso, and more.

The Children’s Choir is accepting new singers for the fall, ages 8-15. Come and see and hear what our program has to offer.

Entrance is by donation.

All ages are welcome.
