Each spring the Comox Valley Art Gallery offers senior students in the visual arts programs at North Island College an opportunity to exhibit work from their final portfolios.

As these emerging artists transition their art practices into the wider world, the opportunity provides them with an experience of exhibiting in a public gallery and with a point of convergence with the community.

This year, CVAG has collaborated with Emily Carr University and North Island Collage to draw together three visual arts programs under the thematic of GATHER to showcase the creative talent of the students.

On April 28, events will begin at 4 p.m. in the Shadbolt Studios at North Island College for the opening of FUSE, the NIC hosted Fine Art Diploma student exhibition.

Concurrently, an Interactive Media Showcase featuring the design work of NIC Digital Arts students will begin at 4 p.m. in the project room studio at the Comox Valley Art Gallery.

At 7 p.m., the celebrations will continue on the CVAG Plaza with the opening of GATHER, the Emily Carr External Fine Arts Degree student exhibition.

On May 6, the community is invited to participate in a Make Art Workshop facilitated by NIC visual arts student, Cassidy Gemlich, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CVAG. All events are free and the public is invited to join in. More information can be found at comoxvalleyartgallery.com.
