This week, Comox Valley Art Gallery welcomes the arrival of Victoria-based artists Valerie Salez and Lindsay Katsaktaske Delaronde with guest curator Toby Lawrence for Touching Earth Bodies, a collective exploration of Vancouver Island’s rainforest and the history of, and ongoing, deforestation practices and impacts.

An exhibition, artist performances, a make-art project and CVAG’s Creative Residency 2018 are part of the comprehensive thematic program.

On Friday evening, May 18 at 7 p.m., the artists and curator will be present for an art opening, artist performances and the presentation of In Defiance, In the Shadow of Our Own Dust, and Touching Earth Bodies. Their collaborative and individual works explore the power of self-representation, ceremony, and engaging bodies in the land.

On Saturday, June 2 from 5–9 p.m., the artists will facilitate a Make Art Project during which drop-in participants can learn to make corn husk dolls. At 7:15 the artists will break for art performances related to their exhibition.

CVAG events are open to the public and free. CVAG invites the community to visit its website: comoxvalleyartgallery.com or call 250 338-6211 for more information.
