Island Voices’ upcoming concerts in Courtenay and Campbell River will centre around the theme of time.
“It’s About Time!” will be performed on Saturday, March 16 at St. Peter Anglican Church (228 South Dogwood St., Campbell River) and Sunday, March 17 at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.
Both concerts begin at 2:30 p.m.
“When I started to look at the pieces we are singing, the word ‘time’ kept coming up,” said choir director John Hooper. “One obvious piece is titled Time, a high-energy song about how we rush around doing this and that while time slips through our fingers. There is also Gloria Patri, which is part of the Roman Catholic Liturgy of the Hours. We’re singing in Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese for the first time. Both Meditation and Rain are an invitation to remove yourself from this time. Serenity Prayer asks us to live one moment at a time. Really, it’s all about time.”
Also on the program will be the rousing Fiddler of Dooney, the beautiful O Lux Beatissima, an English madrigal, and the world premiere of a delightful piece by one of the Island Voices choristers, Georgina Nicoll.
