Special to the Record
Thursday’s (April 11) Georgia Straight Jazz Society concert at High Tide Public House presents one of the 2023-24 season’s highlights when vocalist Jennifer Scott and bassist Rene Worst take the stage.
“We will be performing music from our latest CD release, called Music for Biggs and Smalls plus adding in some of our favourite standards and originals from a new project that will be recorded in June,” said Scott. “Our material always comes from a variety of sources: American songbook, original arrangements of pop, and R&B tunes, plus blues, and originals.
“As well, I would like to include a nod to my love for Brazilian music and will be doing a couple of songs from that genre.”
Nanaimo drummer James McRae will round out the trio for the April 11 show.
“Rene and I have been enjoying traveling as far as France, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Colorado to teach and perform,” said Scott. “We will be continuing to do that this coming year in addition to recording a new project with my quartet.”
Except for the COVID years, Scott and Worst have performed every season for the past 15 years - always offering stunning, enthralling, mesmerizing music.
Downbeat is at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Food from the pub menu, and drinks from the bar will be sold at the concert.
The High Tide Public House is located at 268 5th St., Courtenay.
