Musical history lengthy

John Pippus and Ivan Boudreau are Vancouver singer/songwriters with a long musical history.

The duo will perform solo/acoustic sets and sing their hearts out March 10 at Joe’s Garage in Courtenay to some of their popular songs like Shopping Cart Joe and The Blues Ain’t Forever.

With a background as a bass player sideman, playing with a virtual who’s who of Canadian and U.S. performers, Boudreau has also developed his skills as a writer. He delivers his songs with a relaxed style and easy acoustic approach.

Memorable moments include time spent with Juno Award winners Myles and Lenny, members of Prairie Oyster, the Good Brothers, the Lisa Brokop band, and Colin Linden.

Pippus isn’t entirely folk, as he’s written songs that span the genres of rock, blues, pop and country. He’s been influenced by the likes of Elvis Costello, Gordon Lightfoot and Steve Earle. He combines soulful rhythms, an earthy sound and a smoky voice for a solid performance. SoundProof Magazine declared him a “folk/roots gem.”

“Once you hear his eclectic second album Born A Genius, you will be hooked. Pippus has the kind of vocal timbre that is at once charming and appealing,” writes Jeff Monk of Uptown Magazine.
