Old Soul, a new act, is playing Thursday night (March 21) at Zocalo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with some special guests.

Old Soul is otherwise known as Shayne Stuchbery. Although he is pretty new to performing, he has some familiarity with a number of  impromptu jam sessions in the Valley. He showed up at a few Thursday night Waverley jams a couple years back, and in the homes and workshops of dear friends around Courtenay and Cumberland to share songs and swap stories.

With four kids and a baffling penchant for playing rugby at the ridiculous age of nearly 40, he doesn't get out much, however the few times Shayner has locked into a good old tune with his friends there have been some truly memorable moments.

Not only has all this musical socializing provided the motivation to bring his music to the wider community in the Valley, another particularly pleasing result has been the inclusion of Brodie Dawson on a bunch of his songs, originals and favourites.

The Vancouver Island Music Award nominee brings her perfect crystalline intuition to the backing vocal and is also having a blast slapping the bass.

Also joining Old Soul on March 21 is Jim Lambert, whose guitar styling has provided vivid colour and luxurious texture for many a local musician.

Old Soul will also be careful to bring some bonus nostalgia for any fellow expat New Zealanders with one or two traditional Maori Waiata and a handful of classic Kiwi tunes.
