The Cumberland golf ball race “Thunderballs” is returning for the 2024 year with a list of prizes.

The race of 4,000 golf balls down Dunsmuir Avenue will host competition for a list of prizes worth $15,000, according to a release from the Cumberland Community Schools Society. The top two prizes are flights with WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines, while third place is a pair of weekend passes to this year’s Vancouver Island MusicFest.

“We are gearing up for the biggest Thunderballs yet! Thunderballs Ramp 3.0, over $15,000 worth of prizes to be won and 4,000 balls ready to roll,” wrote a statement from the Cumberland Community Schools Society. “With the support of our generous sponsors we hope to exceed last year’s event proceeds of $50,760.”

Tickets for the event are $10 for a single, $40 for five tickets. They are sold at Seeds Food Market, Alley Cuts, Moon’s Records Cumberland and from the school’s society’s staff and board members.

The fundraisings will support Healthy Food Program, After-School Activities, Youth Centre and the Cumberland Food Share, said the release. The full list of prizes is available to be seen at https://ccssociety.org/news/thunderballs-2024/
