A cyclist is dead following a suspected hit-and-run on the Comox Valley Parkway during the evening of Thursday, Feb 8.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m, Comox Valley RCMP reported. The injured cyclist was discovered by a passerby near Minto Road, and transported to the hospital by paramedics. He died of his injuries after receiving emergency medical treatment.
The victim was riding a red and white bicycle along the parkway at the time of the collision, RCMP media relations officer Const. Monika Terragni reported.
“We are asking anyone who was travelling along the Comox Valley Parkway, or surrounding area, to carefully review their dashcam footage and come forward,” said Terragni. “The vehicle involved is suspected to have some new front-end damage.
“Anyone with any information that may be relevant to our investigation (should) come forward. This includes the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, any passengers, and anyone who might have noticed some very recent, potentially suspicious, damage to a vehicle.”
RCMP responded to the report at 10:56 p.m., but are still determining the time the collision occurred.
Terragni said investigators from the Integrated Collision Analyst Services and Integrated Forensic Identification Services attended the scene last night. Additional investigators from the Major Crime Unit and Street Crimes Unit will be in the area today gathering evidence.
Anyone who was travelling in the area, even as early as 9 p.m., could be of help. Those with dashcam footage, or any other type of footage or information, are urged to call the Comox Valley RCMP and refer to file 2024-1916.
