Alex Bissinger is running for a seat on Comox council, describing herself as “passionate about our town, caring about our community, determined and equipped to serve both with energy and commitment.”

The following is her campaign press release:

Most of my work experience has been in the public service, specifically working at 19 Wing Comox for the past seven years, where I am currently the DND engineering officer for the Real Property Operations Unit.

As a professional engineer, I have gained experience in planning, setting priorities, managing complex initiatives and projects, as well as a practical understanding of development and construction, all required to deliver on what residents expect and desire in their communities, whether it be infrastructure, core services, amenities, recreation, transportation, safety, or affordable housing.

I have been living in the Comox Valley for over seven years. Since moving to Comox, I have been absolutely in love with this town. From home, I am able to bike to great restaurants and cafés downtown, I can play piano down at the Marina Park, ride my mountain bike in Northeast Woods, and do all the shopping I need without having to leave Comox. Thanks to a Comox bylaw, I can even have my two beehives right in my yard. While I grew up in Ottawa and participated in the “rat race” for a few years, Comox is now my forever home, and I am so thankful for the great quality of life it has provided me.

Comox has seen some significant improvements over the past few years, including the vibrant waterfront areas, changes to zoning Bylaw 1850 to allow for secondary suites in most single-family detached homes, the Downtown Vitalization Program, expansion of the Comox Rec Centre, and the list goes on.

Comox is already a wonderful place to live, and I will ensure that it continues evolving in that direction for all future generations to enjoy. It will remain a safe place for all who live here, and become even more convenient, accessible, desirable and exciting for our entire community, from children to seniors alike.
