Statement from the Acting Wing Commander 19 Wing Comox, LCol Jim Rossell:
It is with great sadness that 19 Wing Comox confirms that the fatality reported yesterday by the RCMP was Corporal Christopher Stacey, a serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces based here at CFB Comox. Corporal Stacey was killed in a local single vehicle collision in the early hours of 26 March 2016. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time.
Cpl Stacey joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2008, where he enrolled as an infantryman in his home town of Prince George BC. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Afghanistan from October 2009 to April 2010, receiving the General Campaign Medal- South West Asia. In March of 2013, Cpl Stacey transferred to the Fire Fighter trade, and was posted to 19 Wing Comox in October of 2013.
Christopher Stacey made an impression on everyone he met. A hard worker and respected member, he was always willing to go the extra mile to help out a comrade in need. Cpl Stacey was hand picked to represent all of 19 Wing at the Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Vancouver this past year, and he did so with the utmost dignity and professionalism. Always willing to share his experience, Cpl Stacey was a reliable teacher, friend, and RCAF member.
Cpl Stacey enjoyed everything B.C. had to offer from hunting to fishing and enjoying the outdoors, he was always grateful for being posted to his home province. Cpl Stacey will be sorely missed. As put today by his friends at work “His was a fire that should not have been extinguished”.
