Beware of aggressive people offering to do yard maintenance

Comox Valley RCMP are warning about people soliciting door-to-door in an effort to perform household or yard maintenance.

Comox Valley RCMP remind the public to beware of individuals soliciting door-to-door in an effort to perform household or yard maintenance, one example being window washing.

Some of these solicitors can be quite forceful and if "hired" they sometimes use the opportunity to commit frauds or demand large amounts of money for the work completed.

Seniors living in strata complexes appear to have been recent targets of these scams. Seniors are reminded that strata fees usually cover this type of maintenance which is contracted to individuals or companies.

Bylaws in the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox require individuals offering these services to hold a business licence and they should be able to produce that licence for inspection.

Anyone witnessing one of these potential solicitors in action is asked to contact the local RCMP at 250-338-1321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
