City’s director of community services retiring this month

Randy Wiwchar leaving after 25 years

Director of community services Randy Wiwchar is retiring this month after 25 years of service with the City of Courtenay.

Mayor Larry Jangula said Wiwchar has been instrumental in making numerous projects and events happen. These include the Lewis Centre expansion, the 2010 BC Seniors Games and the City’s centennial celebrations this year.

“One of Randy’s strengths is his ability to bring community groups and people together to achieve big things, like the Rotary Trail,” Jangula said. “He’ll be greatly missed.”

Wiwchar first served as administrator for the Courtenay Recreational Association when he arrived from Flin Flon in 1990. The job transitioned to the City in 1996.

The City will begin the process of seeking his replacement in the coming weeks.
