For the second consecutive year, Comox Strathcona Waste Management in Cumberland was named one of Top Collector award winners by the BC Used Oil Management Association (BCUOMA).
CSWM was among the top 30 Return Collection Facility(RCF) operations recognized for its efforts to collect used oil and antifreeze materials. BCUOMA is a not-for-profit group dedicated to the collection and recycling of used lubricating oil, oil filters, oil containers, used antifreeze and antifreeze containers in the province.
“These B.C. organizations are some of the most dedicated used oil and antifreeze Return Collection Facilities in Canada,” said David Lawes, CEO, BC Used Oil Management Association. “They continue to provide convenient, environmentally-friendly and easy-to-use infrastructures for their DIY customers to return their used oil and antifreeze materials. Their efforts were even more impressive throughout 2020 due to the pandemic.”
When considering top collector candidates, BCUOMA looks at the amount of used oil, oil filters, oil containers, antifreeze and antifreeze containers a location handles, its years participating in the RCF program and its demonstration of continued support for BCUOMA and other recycling stewardship programs.

CSWM has in recent years expanded its collection program throughout the Comox Valley and Strathcona regions with upgrades to its facilities, including those in rural communities such as Denman Island. BCUOMA provided infrastructure grants to help with the expansion of the program.
