Comox Valley Grade 7 students will have a chance to celebrate their graduation as one big group thanks to seven local girls.Glow 2012 will be a district-wide graduation party June 15 in the multi-purpose room of the Comox Recreation Centre from 7 to 11 p.m.Rhianna Hamilton, Grade 7 Airport Elementary student, organized the event with six other girls from the 1st Courtenay Pathfinders, which helps girls between ages 12 and 14 meet new people, gain leadership skills, and have fun.Hamilton said the cancellation of Grade 7 camping trips this year was a small part of the group's reason for organizing the event, but the bigger reason is to get everyone together."Every year they have grad parties for the schools, but we want to have something for the whole district for Grade 7s to do together," said Hamilton. "It's a way to meet new people outside of your school and basically meet a few new friends before you go to high school."She added the group has never organized something like this before, but everything is pretty much planned already, and she expects the evening to be a blast."I think it should be really exciting," said Hamilton. "We're going to have a DJ taking song requests … we're going to have a photo booth, which should be good. There's going to be food. There's going to be nail painting in neon colours and glow-in-the-dark colours."Slushies, pizza, popcorn, hot dogs and candy bags will be on sale, and there will be door prizes. And attendees can make music requests before the event via its Facebook page, Glow 2012. Further updates will be posted there as well.Tickets are $5 and will go on sale later this week or next week. Two hundred tickets are available and they will be on a first-come basis.Tickets are available to Grade 7 students only and will be sold personally by a Pathfinder at each school.
