There soon will be another place to grab a cold beverage in Comox, as New Tradition Brewing is getting ready to open its doors in August.
The town’s newest brewery is set to open on Aug. 24 for their grand opening event.
“We will have four beers on tap, and over time, we’ll have more, up to a range of eight,” explained co-owner and head brewer Pat Savard.

The space will hold just under 100 people and located on the south side of the Comox Centre Mall. The brewery includes outdoor seating, with hours of liquor service from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
The people behind New Tradition - Savard, his wife Tammy and Tim Jolley and his wife Denise - are aiming to create a “unique space that’s cozy as well,” added Savard.
He noted the owners consider themselves as stewards for the environment, and Savard said he drew upon his experience as a contractor and builder when creating the space inside. The decor is handcrafted from the space, with a mix of up-cycled wood from previous projects and wood sourced from local mills.
“It’s important for us to use sustainable building practices - so much of the materials already has its own beauty. We’re just trying to keep a lot out the landfill.”
Savard has been brewing beer since he was 20 years old; his mom is from Cologne, Germany so he said Kolsch will be their lager on tap. He added there will also be an IPA, a dark beer and a fruit beer which will change with the season, as well as a raspberry ale during the summer which “will be a good introduction to sour beers for those who don’t want to go too far.”
In terms of food, Savard explained there will be an emphasis on simple, easy-to-eat, well-priced items, including savory pies, grilled sandwiches and simple snacks.
“We understand there are a lot of families and retirees in the area, so we want to keep it as economical as possible.”
