The City of Courtenay has warned people after a cougar was spotted in Hurford Hill Nature Park.

People in the Comox Valley are being warned to be vigilant near Hurford Hill Nature Park in East Courtenay after a cougar was spotted in the park.

The big cat was seen Sunday at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Hurford Hill Nature Park is between Hobson Avenue and Back Road, with connections from Hurford Avenue, Glen Urquhart Drive and Browning Place.

The City of Courtenay is posting signs in the park to notify park users. The Comox Valley RCMP and the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service have been contacted.
