Denman heritage building saved from blaze

55673comox09denman — DENMAN ISLAND VOLUNTEER firefighters were able to promptly put out a blaze around 6:30 a.m. Monday at the entrance to the Old School Centre on Denman Island thanks to a passerby who noticed the fire and alerted authorities. Fire chief Don Luckett noted the building likely would have been lost if it was much longer before the fire was noticed. It is being investigated by RCMP. The building is over 100 years old and is used by various organizations in the community
