Deborah Coyne, the first declared candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, will be in Courtenay tonight (Oct. 24).

As part of a 23-day tour of B.C. and the Yukon, Coyne will be at a social from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fluid Bar and Grill.

For more information or to RSVP, contact campaign@deborahcoyne.ca.

“I am looking forward to visiting B.C. and the Yukon, and I will be taking the same message from coast to coast: it is time for Canadians to get off the sidelines,” says Coyne. “I want to speak about a Canada where everyone has equal access to opportunity and is included in our shared prosperity, and everyone shares in the hard work to make that vision a reality. A Canada where we expect more of our nation, and of each other.”

She will visit 23 communities, from Campbell River to Whitehorse. Her tour will also take her to Bear Lake and Kitimat to see first-hand the communities that would be impacted by the Northern Gateway project.

“During my campaign I intend to make a virtue of not only visiting the major cities, but also the smaller communities that make up the rich fabric of our great nation,” said Coyne. “I want to speak with the people of Kitimat about Northern Gateway about how it would impact them.

"I want to hear from the people of coastal B.C. about oil tanker traffic. I want to listen, and I want to learn.”
