After being postponed over the winter, the Fitzgerald Avenue road improvement project is ready to roll.
The project includes bicycle lanes on either side of Fitzgerald, new signage and improved sightlines from Eighth 21st streets.
The project will involve several steps. The contractor is marking out the layout this week, but the real work starts next week when the old lines are removed. Once that’s complete, they will begin painting new lines.
While the City hopes the project will be completed next week, it is dependent on having a period of good weather. If it rains, the project could be postponed until the following week.
Residents are asked not to drive over freshly-painted markings until they are dry. The contractor will use traffic cones to mark the fresh paint. Cones will be removed once lines have dried.
Temporary No Parking signs will be installed along Fitzgerald for the duration of the project.
Traffic control personnel will be on hand to assist all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
The City will be applying for project funding through the Province's Cycling Infrastructure Partnership Program, and through ICBC’s Road Safety Department.
