As Stephen Harper’s Conservatives sweep to the majority government their leader asked for, the Tory candidate is in a tight two-battle.

As Stephen Harper’s Conservatives sweep to the majority government their leader asked for, the Tory candidate is in a tight two-battle.

John Duncan, who has won the sprawling riding in five of the past six elections, has 3,390 votes in the latest count.

That puts him 403 ballots ahead of NDP challenger Ronna-Rae Leonard.

Duncan holds 46.93 per cent of the popular vote in the riding, while Leonard is at 40.82.

Sue Moen of the Green Party is surprisingly in a neck-and-neck race with Liberal Mike Holland, reflecting the Liberals’ collapse nationally. At the latest count, each of them is still short of 500 ballots, with independent Jason Draper and Frank Martin of the Marxist-Leninist Party trailing them.

The totals reflect 63 of 298 polls.
