It’s with great pride that I announce my decision to run in the November 15th municipal election as a candidate for councillor for the Village of Cumberland.

My family and I have lived in the Valley for 31 years, the last 12 in Cumberland.

We love Cumberland.  I want to see Cumberland grow at a reasonable pace ensuring that it keeps its small town feel.  As well, we need affordable housing and the services families and the growing retired population need to prosper.

Since my recent retirement from teaching at North Island College, I’ve had the time to think about the issues facing the residents of the Comox Valley and especially residents of Cumberland.

This led me to my involvement with the Comox Valley Housing Task Force and the Social Planning Society.

I was closely involved as a volunteer in the 2004 Official Community Plan and I volunteer regularly for the Cumberland Community Forest Society.

I’m quizmaster for its twice-yearly Trivia night fundraiser. I also sit on the board of the Cumberland Museum and Archives. My wife Carolyn and I are committed residents of this wonderful village.

My extensive experience as faculty representative on the North Island College Board, as president of the Comox Valley Art Gallery, in fact, all of my work and volunteer experience, have prepared me well for the challenges ahead.  I’m up for it!

I can be reached at 250-703-1894.  My email address is rogeralbert@shaw.ca. Please vote for me on November 15.
