NDP candidates in public forums

The Vancouver Island North NDP riding association has scheduled three all-candidate meetings for this weekend.

The Vancouver Island North NDP riding association has scheduled three all-candidate meetings for this weekend.

Ronna-Rae Leonard and Erik Eriksson of the Comox Valley plus Shirley Ackland of Port McNeill are scheduled to debate Saturday morning in Campbell before travelling to Courtenay for a 2:30 p.m. public appearance in the seniors’ lounge of the Filberg Centre.

A third all-candidate forum in the sprawling Vancouver Island North federal riding is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. in Port McNeill.

The meetings are open to the public, but only NDP members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates.

Vancouver Island North NDP members will be able to vote for their candidate of choice by mail ballot, or at the nomination meeting Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.

The trio is trying to succeed Catherine Bell as the NDP candidate to face Tory MP and cabinet minister John Duncan in the next federal election. Bell stepped aside to focus on running the Zocalo Café in Courtenay, which she bought last year.
