A trip down memory lane led directly to the Florence Filberg Centre when the United Way presented My Heart is Over There – A World War Two Musical Revue.

As part of Have a Heart Weekend, the event raised about $18,000, which will be shared among the United Way, St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation and Comox United Church.

Event chairman Doug Forbes-King said all three performances were sold out, with 250 in attendance at each of the Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon performances.

“It went great,” Forbes-King said. “Everyone really enjoyed the music and the theatre and had a great time.”

Director Gloria Herauf put together the original concept based on an armed forces radio show, and the lively cast put their hearts into singing the classic songs of the 1940s.

Palate-pleasing food was served by Plates Eatery and the Monarch Lions Club hosted a cash bar and contributed their net proceeds back to the charities.

Forbes-King said the participation of major sponsors Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community, BMO Bank of Montreal and the Healthcare Resource Group helped with the fundraising.

He adds there are plans to hold the event again next year.
