One person has been airlifted following an accident Wednesday morning at Comox Road.

Around 11 a.m., the vehicle went over a steep embankment as the road rises toward the town. Comox Fire Rescue, RCMP and ambulance responded to the scene.

Traffic was backed up for about an hour, as traffic was down to single-lane alternating, while first responders dealt with the accident. Later, some traffic was diverted to Back Road,

One person was sent by ambulance to the nearby hall K’ómoks First Nation where the air ambulance was waiting. It had arrived on the scene about 11:30. At noon, they loaded the patient onto the helicopter, which then flew off about 12:05 p.m. The patient is expected to recover from his injuries.

Comox Valley RCMP said they do not consider impairment by drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the accident.
