Oyster River crash sends man to hospital in critical condition

Comox Valley RCMP responded early Wednesday morning to a single car collision on Highway 19a near Hamm Road in Oyster River.

Around 7:30 a.m., a northbound white 1998 Geo Metro crossed the center line and went off the road.

The driver was an 18-year-old Courtenay man who was airlifted out of the Comox Valley, and was listed as being in critical condition.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles involved.

Comox Valley RCMP Traffic Unit along with the RCMP collision analyst section are working to determine the cause of the incident.

RCMP would like to thank the public for their patience as traffic had to be re-routed for most of the morning.
