Police confirm same suspect responsible for both Lake Trail Middle School threats

School reopened Monday, after Friday closure due to threat

RCMP have confirmed that the same suspect is responsible for the threats that forced two separate Lake Trail Middle School closures.

Lake Trail was closed for the day on Nov. 26 due to a threat targeted specifically at the school. An arrest was made that day and the school reopened Nov. 27.

Last Friday, Dec. 4, the school was closed due to another threat, this one directed at a staff member. The school remained closed for the day, and reopened for classes on Monday, Dec. 7.

“The (Dec. 4) threat was directed at a specific staff member and steps have been taken to ensure their safety moving forward,” said Const. Monika Terragni, media relations officer, Comox Valley RCMP. “This is an understandably frustrating incident for those in the Lake Trail community; however, we have to take our time and be vigilant during these investigations to ensure everyone’s safety.”

When asked if both threats came from the same person, Terragni said yes.

“The Comox Valley RCMP, School District 71, Youth Probation, and the Ministry of Children and Families are continuing their work together to find a solution that not only keeps our community safe but one that will support this young person and his family in the weeks ahead,” she said, adding she is confident the situation has now been rectified.

As the file is still open, police encourage anyone with additional information to contact the local RCMP detachment at 250-338-1321 and refer to file 2020-19650. To make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at

The Record has reached out to the school district for additional information.
