In partnership with the Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial, the Village will be implementing improvements to Rotary Orchard Trail this spring.

The 800-metre trail runs between the Camp Road-Derwent Alley (Porky’s Path) in the east to Comox Lake Road just west of Rotary Orchard Park in the west.

Trail crews are beginning work the week of April 20 and the project is expected to be completed in mid-May. Temporary trail closures of short duration may be required, so the public is asked to obey posted signs and follow the direction of workers on site.

Trail upgrades include:

  • Improving drainage and replacing the boardwalk with swales and culverts;
  • Removing embedded obstacles (roots and rocks) and improving surfacing with native (on site) soils.
  • Realigning the trail approach to Comox Lake Road
  • Other minor works to improve sight-lines, safety, accessibility and user experience.

The overall objective of the project is to maintain the rustic character of the existing path, but to bring the trail up to a safer, more sustainable standard.
