On Dec. 27, the Comox Valley RCMP were advised of a mischief to a vehicle that had occurred sometime over the holidays. While the vehicle was parked on the Strathcona Parkway, near Mount Washington, the driver’s side rear window had been broken. (2016-16376)
Bonus bust
A single-vehicle collision turned into much more, on Dec. 27. The Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section responded to a report of a vehicle off-road, on the 8500 block of Highway 19A. Once on scene, it was discovered that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. During the impaired driving investigation, a mischief investigation was started as well, as the officer had discovered fresh paint on a building in close proximity to the driving incident, and further evidence to support his findings. The driver was also found to have a quantity of shatter in their possession. As a result, the driver received a three-day immediate driving prohibition and was released with a promise to appear in court on a future date to face charges of mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Who’s piloting the Pilot?
The Comox Valley RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance in locating a stolen vehicle. On Dec. 28, a blue Honda Pilot, bearing British Columbia licence plate CM182H was reported stolen from the 400 block of the Old Island Highway in Courtenay. The vehicle has a distinctive looking roof rack that is described to have three aluminum pipes on it. On Dec. 29, the licence plates of this vehicle were located on a different vehicle. This vehicle possibly now has British Columbia license plate 823MLA on it. (2016-16427)
Hot TV on Hornby
A residential break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on Dec. 28. Sometime overnight, an unknown person had broken into the residence located on the 5200 block of Porpoise Crescent, Hornby Island. The residence was rummaged through, and a television was stolen. The Comox Valley RCMP Forensic Identification Section is assisting with this investigation. (2016-16447)
What a drag
A single vehicle collision at the intersection of Comox Road and 17th Street in Courtenay, was reported on Dec. 30. Investigation revealed that two vehicles had been involved in a street race, which had started at street lights, located at 17th Street and Cliffe Avenue. One of the two vehicles involved was able to slow down and negotiate the turn onto Comox Road, the other vehicle was not able to and ran into the cement barriers on the end of 17th Street. Both vehicles were impounded for seven days for street racing, and both drivers received violation tickets. (2016-16554)
Propane tank picked
A break enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on Dec. 31. An unknown person(s) had broken into a propane tanks cage, located at a business on the 150 block of Island Highway South. A propane tank was stolen from the cage. (2016-16585)
Who took the tunes?
During the evening hours of Dec. 31, a theft from a vehicle was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP. A vehicle, parked on the 1300 block of Grieve Avenue in Courtenay, had been entered and stereo equipment was stolen from the trunk. (2016-16609)
