The Adhoc Emergency Resource Organization (AHERO) events committee will host the Frontline Resource Fair on Oct. 20 to acknowledge Homeless Awareness Week.
The fifth annual Frontline Resource Fair will include over 30 display tables hosted by an agency representative.
The aim is:
• To provide the public with an accessible, friendly and open venue to meet service providers and learn more about their programs;
• To address some of the barriers people may face accessing services such as lack of transportation, low literacy, not having a phone or internet service, chronic illness, homelessness, addiction, mental illness or poverty;
• To provide an opportunity for service providers and the public to network and learn more about resources and volunteer opportunities in the Comox Valley.
The Frontline Resource fair is also an opportunity for the public to donate gently used household items, a $20 grocery gift card, clothing and nonperishable food items.
Fair attendees can enjoy a free BBQ and coffee, meet frontline workers and learn about services for the homeless or those at risk of homelessness. There will also be a free gift basket draw and donated items gifted to give away for those in need who have registered.
It is being presented in collaboration with the Wachiay Friendship Centre, Courtenay Recreation Centre, Salvation Army and Vancouver Island Health Authority,
The AHERO group presents this annual opportunity to promote public awareness of the issues of poverty and homelessness and to provide information about the agencies that provide frontline services.
The event happens Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lewis Centre in Courtenay at 489 Old Island Highway.
