Add one letter to the word "trivia" and it becomes "trivial." But a fundraising event planned for this Saturday night is anything but.

Ben Davies and his partner Josée Bureau are organizing the second annual Ride to Conquer Cancer Trivia Tourney, which will raise money for the BC Cancer Foundation.

The trivia tournament will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Comox Valley Lions Club den at 1729 Comox Ave., underneath the old library.

The tournament is open to teams of four to six, and people can make their own teams or register and then be added to an existing team. It costs $10 per person, and prizes and refreshments will be provided.

The tournament raises money for Davies' and Bureau's Team Flip Flop Shops, which is cycling in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 260-kilometre ride from Vancouver to Seattle that raises money to support cancer research, teaching and compassionate care through the BC Cancer Foundation.

This is the second year Davies and Bureau are participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and they have recruited a team for this year's ride June 18 and 19.

There are eight people on the team — Davies, Bureau, Rob Nygren, Lindsay Neufeld, Fiona McQuillan, Jan Dafoe, Melissa Dekker and Martin Davies.

"We enjoyed last year, but we've also seen firsthand the effects of cancer in people we know over the last year and want to renew our fundraising efforts," said Davies, who says he is inspired by grandparents and family members and friends who have had cancer.

Last year, Davies and Bureau raised about $7,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Nearly 70 people participated in the inaugural trivia tournament and raised more than $1,300 for Davies and Bureau and the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

People can register for the trivia tournament by calling Davies at 250-339-5776, visiting the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=152428328145620 or visiting Davies' blog at www.unpluggedatknight.wordpress.com.
