A 29-year-old woman died early Thursday morning at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the Merville area.

A 29-year-old woman died early Thursday morning at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the Merville area.

Comox Valley RCMP and BC Ambulance personnel responded at 3:37 a.m. to the 7300 block of Highway 19A. A single vehicle was found in the left-hand-side ditch resting against a tree on the passenger's side.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene, the RCMP said in a press release.

The Comox Valley traffic section and Vancouver Island collision reconstructionist are investigating to determine a cause.

This is the second fatal motor vehicle collision reported in the Comox Valley in the past week. A 42-year-old Campbell River man suffered serious head trauma and died in the early-morning hours of May 8 when a Ford Aerostar van left the Inland Island Highway near Piercy Road. A 30-year-old female occupant survived.

Neither of the deceased have been identified publicly.
