POSTCARDS FOR PEACE gives youth a chance to thank those who have served their country in the armed forces.

The Alberni Project-HMCS Alberni Memorial and Exhibit in Comox is participating in the Postcards for Peace youth program offered by Veterans Affairs.

In preparation for Veterans Week from Nov. 5 to 11, Postcards for Peace provides an opportunity for youth to send postcards to express thanks to those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace or to still-serving Canadian Armed Forces members.

As a learning activity, this program allows young Canadians to actively remember the sacrifices and achievements of Canadian Veterans.

Parents and teachers of public, private or home school children wishing to bring their children to The Alberni Project (TAP) to write their postcards should assist in maintaining appropriate content in their child’s postcard. For privacy, only the first name of the child and their age or their level in school will be allowed in the postcard message. Larger school groups will be mailed as a group once collected at TAP.

Participants with Postcards for Peace at The Alberni Project (TAP) can pick up their free postcard to fill out either at TAP or at home during museum hours Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Comox Centre Mall.

A list of recipients of the Postcards is available at TAP. The postcards are free and TAP will provide the postage necessary to mail all single or group postcards. The deadline for returning the postcards to TAP is Oct. 26 to allow enough time for TAP to mail them to the recipients at various Canadian Forces bases, hospitals and nursing/retirement homes by Remembrance Day.

TAP is a privately funded, community-supported program of remembrance and is not affiliated with any government agency or the Royal Canadian Legion.

For more information, call at 250-339-4322 or visit TAP at the Comox Centre Mall.
