Baltis, Alex

January 17, 1911 – January 3, 2008

Alex Baltis passed away on January 3, 2008 at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife Muriel K. Baltis and two sons: Randall (Anne) Baltis of Kelowna B.C.and Brian (Kathy) Baltis; and two grandchildren: Christopher Baltis and Tori Baltis of Courtenay, B.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Alex was born in Hanna, Alberta where he had his schooling Grade 1 to Grade 11. He eventually moved to Banff, Alberta where he spent 5 years before joining the Navy in WWII. Following the war, he joined the Winthrop Chemical Company as a drug salesman. After a few years he tired of all the traveling so in 1948 he joined Henry Birks and Sons where he spent the next 25 years as the manager of the china department. Just after starting with Birks, Alex joined the Earl Grey Golf Club where he learned and loved the game of golf for the next 52 years. He retired from Birks in 1973 and continued his keen interest in golf until the age of 92 when his health started to deteriorate.

We would like to thank all the caring staff at both St. Joseph’s Hospital and Glacier View Lodge for the special care that Alex received.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to the Salvation Army.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19 at 4:30 pm in the Silver Room at Crown Isle Resort.
