Brian E. McKean

April 22, 1933 ~ May 30, 2007

Brian passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his daughters by his side. He is survived by his siblings Albert (Colleen), Gerry and Jeanette, his daughters Linda, Debbie and Tracy (Shaun), his grandchildren Lesley (Allison), Nicholas (Trish), Jason, Andrew and Gary, his great-grandchildren Jenna Lee and Jack, and his beloved pet Scooter. His wife, Joanne, predeceased him in 2003 after 50 years of marriage.

Brian worked as a logger, sold encyclopedias, mutual funds, real estate and was a stockbroker before he moved to the Comox Valley with his family in 1969. He returned to logging for a short time before he opened his secondhand store in Black Creek and then in Royston.

Brian’s one passionate interest was politics. He had an absolute intolerance for injustice and fought for what he believed in everyday. He was a hard working member of the Council of Canadians and various committees. If nothing else my father made you think about what you said or believed about politics.

If friends are a measure of a person’s wealth, then Brian was a wealthy man. Over one hundred people attended his Memorial Service in Royston on June 2, 2007.

His many friends and family made visits and walked his dog when he couldn’t. Those visits meant the world to him and provided him with some ease during his battle with cancer.

A special thanks to Dr. Konway, the nurses at Home Care Nursing, emergency room staff and nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Your assistance and kindness helped us through a difficult time.
