It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Brigina (Gina) Ida Wilhelmina Harms (née Schuster), born in Sommerfeld, Germany in 1933, passed away peacefully at Comox Valley Hospice, November 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Gina was predeceased last year by her beloved husband of 61 years, Herman Harms. Gina is survived by her children Doris (John), Patricia (Rimka), Judy (Bob), Ron (Noreen), Brent, Christine (Russell), and grandchildren Karissa, Reuben, Shiloh, Evangeline, Elisha, Alois, Perry, Chad, Colin, Dilon, Jeremy, Reese, and Jenna. She is also survived by sister Marianne in Hildesheim, Germany. Her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends will dearly miss Gina. Gina had an alert, intuitive mind and a full life. After surviving the war as a child, she immigrated to Canada in 1953 to begin her life with her loving husband Herman. She devoted her life to Herman and the raising of her six children. Respected by all who knew her, her dedication, her remarkable hospitality and unselfish acts of kindness will never be forgotten. Mom, words cannot describe the loss we feel in your passing. You led an exemplary life that was a model to all. You will never be forgotten nor replaced!

A special thanks to Dr. Nancy McFadden for her kindness to our mother in her last years and to Comox Valley Home Care and Comox Valley Hospice for making mom’s last days as gentle as possible. Memorial donations may be made in Gina’s honour to the BC Cancer Society or to the Comox Valley Hospice Society. A private Celebration of Gina’s Life will be held at a later date.
