In Loving Memory ~

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Denis Walli Edvard Kabush, loving husband, and father of two, died peacefully in Courtenay, BC, surrounded by family.

He was eighty years old. He was very grateful to have the option to use MAiD after living with pancreatic cancer for the last 4 months of his life.

Denis was born in Vancouver, BC and lived an active life full of adventure. He met the love of his life, Peggy, while studying for his Bachelor of Arts degree at UBC, and they married in 1967. He and Peggy had 56 wonderful years together with many close friends and family.

After moving to the Comox Valley in 1970, he worked as an elementary school teacher for 28 years. During his career he was active in soccer, tennis, squash, and running clubs.

After retiring in 1998, he enjoyed having more time to cross-country ski, mountain bike, work in his garden and travel. Being an effective, positive communicator with his children was very important to Denis. He was an avid supporter of Danelle and Geoff's athletic pursuits which took him to many track meets, cycling and triathlon competitions in Canada, U.S., Europe, and Australia to cheer them on.

As an avid reader with a passion for learning, Denis loved reading math, science, and philosophy books his entire life. He filled pages of journals with his learnings, and reflections.

He also loved spending time living on Hornby Island at the cabin he and Peggy built in 1981 after travelling around North America for eight months in a small van. It was a very meaningful year to bond with his children who were three and five years old.

On Hornby he loved to mountain bike, play golf, socialize with friends and family, and enjoy the beach and beautiful sunsets.

Denis was best known for his quick-witted humour, inquisitive mind, love of deep philosophical conversations, and generous spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, their children, Danelle (Chris) and Geoff (Katerina), grandchildren Zoe and Nico, brother Elmer, sister Ann, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, a host of long-time friends, and beloved dog, Skye.

In lieu of a memorial service, the family is having some smaller private celebrations of life.
