Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Donald Gibbs passed away on June 8th.
Don, with his wife and two children, left Vancouver and came to Courtenay in 1962. Three more children were born in Courtenay. He established and managed Courtenay Glass until his retirement in 1992, when he "passed the torch" to his youngest son Rich, who has owned and managed the business since.
Family and service to others were Don's greatest joy. He was always ready to put his 'jack-of-all-trades' and abilities to use. Having been associated with Courtenay Baptist Church for over fifty years, he served in several capacities, including keeping Pastor Williams car running.
In his retirement, Don continued to use his skills to help where he could. In addition to renovating his house, he harvested fruit, enjoyed his growing family, generally puttered, and then began years of cruising to many parts of the world.
Don is survived and missed by his wife Sheila, children Don [Ulrike], Barb [Ken], Rob [Michelle], Dave [Michelle] and Rich [Joanne]. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his twin sister Doris and younger brother Allan [June] as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will have a celebration of Don's life at a future date
