It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
Don passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Comox Valley Hospital.
Don was a family man thru and thru and loved them all so very much. His favorite place to spend his time with them was up Comox Lake, hunting, fishing, mushroom picking and camping, or just a chat and visit on the front porch where everyone and all were invited.
Don started his logging career in 1969 with Crown Zellerbach and continued with them during their several different name changes throughout his 40 years until he retired in 2009.
Upon retirement, Don looked forward to finding that special deal at any garage sale, and continued his passion for firewood cutting.
He is survived by his loving wife Laura of 56 years, children, David (Chellaan], Tammi, Joey and Julie-Ann (Sean). Seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, his brother Dennis, his two cats Abbey and Ziva.
Don is pre-deceased by his parents, Joe and Dorothy Rye, two brothers Glen and Tom, as well as his grandson Justin Wilkie.
The family would like to thank the Cumberland Fire Department, the BC Ambulance attendants, and Dr's and nurses that tended to him at the North Island Hospital Comox Valley.
At his request there will be no celebration of life or service and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the BC Cancer Foundation or Kitty Kat Pals in Don's honour.
