Earl Albert Demings, eldest son of the late Mildred and Nathan Demings of Carleton Village, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, passed away February 27th, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, B.C. after a lengthy battle with cancer. Earl is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret. Two sons, Michael and Billy, predeceased him. Surviving children are: sons Kevin (Tina) of Courtenay, James of Prince Rupert and Gerald (Daisy) of Prince Rupert. He also leaves a daughter Charlene (Dan) Mechalchuk of Royston. He leaves grandchildren: Tanya, Todd, Brittney, Patricia, Rebecca and Billy, all of the Comox Valley area, granddaughter Amanda of Kitimat and grandson Jason of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia as well as three great grandchildren: Katlyn, Kody, and Brandon. All will miss him dearly. Earl leaves sisters:Marilyn, Elaine, Laverne, Diane, and Edna, all living in Nova Scotia, four brothers: Stanley, Mac, and Terry, all residing in Nova Scotia, and Gerry of Calgary, as well as many nieces and nephews. Earl had friends in Nova Scotia, Prince Rupert, Vancouver and Courtenay who will also miss him. He dearly loved the sea, skippered boats on both the east and west coasts and was an expert at navigating.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2004 at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Interment in Courtenay Civic Cemetery to follow. Donations in Earl’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, #102 - 1509 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, BC V9N 2K6.
