Michael Carl Hussey and Judi Gail Rider would like to share with you the news that our mother, Elsie Francis Hussey (nee Penfold), passed away peacefully in her Comox home on March 2, 2018, at the age of 99 with her niece, Babe, by her side.

Born in Montreal in April, 1918, Mom was a bright, strong and fiercely independent woman until almost the very end of her remarkable life. With Tommy, her devoted husband of 64 years by her side, she led an extraordinary life, one that overcame the Great Depression and two wars, and that expressed its values in her innumerable gardens, pets and animals of every kind, her fierce devotion to her children, her love of family and friends, and her passionate interest in the lives of her grandchildren, David and Ashley Rider and Sean Dick.

After Tommy's passing in 2006 - with Elsie by his side -  my sister and I worried that she would have difficulty living on her own. Yet as recently as last fall, she was weeding her garden, cutting back blackberry canes and feeding her birds. Only a month ago, she was telling me to "make my bed" and "put things away."

Our sincere thanks to the Bergeron family - Babe, Lori, Kevin, Bob and Jim (Martin) - for their years of support and for the comfort they provided right up until the end of her life.

We would also like to express our appreciation to V.I.H.A. nurses and care aides and to her physician, Dr. E. Howard.

At her own request, Mom will be cremated and interred beside her Tommy at Courtenay Civic Cemetery.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice will be most appreciated.
