Elsie Theresa Maddex

May 11, 2007

Maddex, Elsie, Theresa

January 26, 1924 - May 11, 2007

Elsie passed away peacefully on 11 May 2007 at home in Comox, B.C. She was 83 years old.

Not a native of Comox Valley, Elsie was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and grew up in the Rossendale district near Portage la Prairie, daughter of Mary and Charles Dromun, a farming couple of the area. While working at the airbase in Macdonald, Manitoba at the end of the war she met her beloved husband Fred, an R.C.A.F. pilot and on 26 December 1945 they married. They were together almost 60 years until Fred passed away on 24 December 2005. During those years Elsie enjoyed being homemaker and mother to her family as they grew up in various communities on the prairies.

When Fred retired in 1981 they first moved to Lumsden, Saskatchewan but soon the urge to move west took hold and they discovered the beautiful Comox Valley. In 1984 they moved to Bates Beach where they literally chopped a homestead out of the raw woods. Elsie’s love for gardening became apparent as she worked incessantly to turn that property into a beautiful vista of colour. Elsie enjoyed that beautiful property until they moved to Comox in 1996. Optimistic and energetic, generous and kind, Elsie traveled widely and enjoyed each day to the fullest. They were members of the Black Creek Lions Club and Elsie especially looked forward to the annual Black Creek Lions Ride-a-thon. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion 234 branch ladies auxiliary in Lumsden, Saskatchewan.

She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Cloy (Doug); sons Brian (Betty), Allan (Barb), Dan (Betty), and Lyle (Pat); stepson Dwain (Dianne); 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Albert.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, 16 may at 1:00 pm at Comox Valley Funeral Home & Crematorium with Mr. Lawrence Burns officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital if desired.

Arrangements are being made by Comox Valley Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Rd.
