March 17, 1927 – December 24, 2019
Our loving father passed away in peace after a short time with cancer. His three kids, Mark, Dawn-Lesley and James nearby. Dad is being sadly missed by all who knew him because of his everlasting outgoingness, sense of humour and generosity.
Born in New Toronto to Edward and Muriel Peters, Ernie worked the family farm in Georgetown, ON, with his brothers and sister during the depression, later joining the volunteer fire brigade. On July 16, 1952 he arrived in Vancouver and happened to meet his future wife of 57 years, Geraldine, and they married on September 18, 1954. That night, they moved to Nanaimo where they resided until 1963.
They then moved to Courtenay and continued to raise a family. For 40 years dad was an accountant, owning Advanced Accounting in Courtenay for several of those years. He was a proud member of the Kinsmen and K-40 clubs; his children also becoming proud members. He was an ardent bowler, attending the national 5-pin championships several times. He enjoyed assisting coaches in minor lacrosse, baseball and ice hockey and lent much of his time and service on the 21st Street Lacrosse Box Fundraising Committee. He enjoyed gardening, working on the properties, and stamp collecting. He had many stories about his life, some sad, many happy. He was a humble man with a beautiful spirit.
He is predeceased by brothers Ross and Robert, and mourned by his children, sister Marilyn Van Pinxten of Simpsonville, SC, brother Don of Issaquah, WA and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Swanson and all the caregivers at the Comox Valley Hospital for the care they gave dad.
Private memorial to take place at a future date. Ernie suggested any donations be made to the SPCA.
Dear Lord, give dad a garden
That he can plant and grow
Give him lots to do he likes to be busy, You know
For its not what you reap, its what you sow
He will always be remembered as a kind and giving man.
