Born April 23, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Evelyn Beatrice Brown (nee Elburg) died peacefully surrounded by family in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, on February 17, 2013 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Virgil N. Brown, her parents John C. and Olga M. Elburg, her brother Erwin Elburg, beloved nephew John E. Elburg and foster grandson Eric Schocket (Alison Greene). She is survived by her daughter Luanne Brown (Thomas MacBriar), Elizabeth Paschuk (Myron), and Neal Brown (Tateasha) and foster daughters Edna Czaplewski (Ken) and Eve Schocket.

Grandchildren include Kate MacBriar (Marcelo Hernandez-Lira), and Ryan MacBriar (Tishina), Nora Paschuk, Michael Paschuk, Simeon Paschuk, Samuel Brown, Wesley Brown, Natalie Souaid, Jamie Souaid and foster grandchildren Dr. Luanne Schocket (Justin Edison), Joe Czaplewski (Paula), Neal Czaplewski (Kara) great grandchildren, Miguel, Liliana, and Joaquin MacBriar-Hernandez, and Carter MacBriar, and foster great grandchildren Cameron, Erin, Ben, Margo, Ariana, Joshua, Kyle and Drew and beloved nieces Carolyn Richardson and Suzanne Odette (Randy) and their families, many Brown family nieces and nephews, plus her dear friend Nancy Luce. She also leaves relatives on her father’s side of the family (the Sorensens) in Denmark, who for generations guarded Kronberg Castle in Helsingor, Denmark.

A vibrant woman, beautiful inside and out, Evelyn lived with joy and gusto. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Evelyn loved sewing, singing, canning, reading, and watching old movies. Always ready with a hug, a smile and an entertaining story, she was a soft place to land for anyone in need.

A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 138 Hoy Lake Road, Qualicum Beach, British Columbia on March 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Sue Hunter, Dr. C. E. Bigelow and the wonderful staff of Qualicum Manor in Qualium Beach for their kindness, loving care, and support of our beloved mom and our family.
