LAVERY, Frances Gertrude (Lantz/Newcombe)

10 May 1926 ~ 1 April 2011

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be,

so he put his arms around you and whispered come with me.

With tearful eyes we watched and saw you pass away,

although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay.

Frances (Fran) grew up in Port Williams, Nova Scotia and was so proud to have represented her home town as an Apple Blossom Princess in 1946. In 1952 the Newcombes moved to Toronto and in 1954 Frances and the three children were rescued from their trailer home just before it was washed away by Hurricane Hazel. Frances spent most of her working years with Litton Systems of Canada (Toronto) and retired with Bill to their rural home in Comox, B.C. Family meant everything to Frances. She was generous, organized and loved cooking and baking. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, watching her flowers grow and doing jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. Frances enjoyed many trips which included Nova Scotia, Hawaii, The Bahamas, Florida, Seattle, Edmonton, Toronto, Germany and Italy.

Frances was predeceased by her husband Bill and brother George Lantz (Port Williams, NS). She is survived by her brother Murray Lantz (Coldbrook, NS), sister Audrey Forsythe (Dartmouth, NS), sons Richard (Carrol) Newcombe (Mississauga, Ont), Robert (Marsha) Newcombe (Courtenay, BC), daughter Wendy Newcombe (Rick Gusland )(Courtenay, BC), stepchildren Simon (Susan) Lavery (Toronto, Ont) and Janet Lavery (Durham, England). She is also survived by six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends. Fran will be especially missed by long time friends Jane McGillivray and Elsie Wiwchar.

Cremation arrangements done by Toneff Funeral Services. A family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations in Frances's name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Many thanks to Dr. Neufeld, nurses and home care personnel.
