April 16, 1935 - June 21, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that the Abric family is announcing the passing of George Louis Abric. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 87 on June 21st, 2022, at Glacierview Lodge Comox Valley, British Columbia after battling for many years with dementia. George was born on April 16, 1935, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
He is predeceased by his wife, Sheila Abric, first wife Jessie McCutcheon, and his parents George W. Abric and Margaret Abric (Oickle). He was the last surviving family member of six siblings, his sisters Ethel, Margaret, Carol, Helen, Doris, and his brother Clyde.
George is survived by his three children, Steven, David, and Susan, his step sons Karl (Linnea), Mark, and step daughter Kim. As well as his seven grandchildren, Mandy, Stephanie, Tyler, Cory, Emily, Jared and Donald.
George served in the Air Force for many years as a safety mechanic in Gimli Manitoba, Germany, France, and Cold Lake Alberta, until he was transferred into the community of Comox Valley in 1973, where he then retired.
George spent his later days working on the yard with his wife in their beautiful home, where you can still find their handmade garden beds and masonry work they built. He was a skilled craftsman and talented woodworker, who loved to build furniture, as well as creating crafts and ornaments to participate in local craft fairs and Christmas markets. He enjoyed spending his time with his wife, attending garage sales, and local auction houses. His passions were playing darts and golfing with his friends Jack, Terry, and Wayne. He helped build Longlands Golf course (aka the Park) where he worked as a greenskeeper and held a course record for lowest score.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. There will be no service as per George's request.
We would like to extend thanks to the staff of Glacierview Lodge for all your kindness and care for the past few years.
